For the 10th consecutive year, Jam On It will host the Pacific AAU Girls Basketball District Championship. Reno will serve as the host city for the 2011 event. The entertaining city, excellent hotel accommodations, as well as the ability to have the entire event “All Under 1 Roof” is why the Girls Basketball Committee selected Reno to host the event. All games will be played at the Reno Sparks Convention Center. The tournament serves as the AAU National Qualifier for the the Pacific District. The Pacific District has one of the largest AAU memberships in the AAU with over 8,000 girls registered with AAU. The Oscar Jimenez Pacific AAU District Championship is more than a District Qualifier. It is an opportunity for coaches and teams to come together to celebrate girls basketball. We will offer different levels of competition for teams. It is up to the teams to decide their division. Teams that are looking to advance to a Division I AAU National Championship and are looking for the top competition should register for the Level I division. Teams that are looking to participate in a Division II AAU National Championship and are not considered an elite team, should register for the Level II Division. All teams that participate will have the chance to play in the West Coast AAU National Championships in Las Vegas, July 19-22, 2012. All games will be played at the Las Vegas Convention Center and the Las Vegas Hilton.
The 2012 Pacific AAU Girls District Championship is adding special events to the tournament. We are going to have a coaches games for the coaches, free throw and three point shoots for players and parents. We have invited several college coaches to the event to put on a coaches clinic. The tournament is not open to Division I coaches for evaluation, but we do expect to have to have Division II, Division III, NAIA, and Junior College Coaches at the tournament. We are expecting a record number of teams to come to Reno for the Girls District Championships. Teams that arrive early can schedule practice times and will get a few extra games in our Friday night challenge games. Matt Williams will serve as the tournament director. He is the Pacific AAU Girls Basketball Sports Director as well as the AAU Girls Basketball National CO – Chair. Matt is responsible for all the National AAU tournaments, West Coast AAU Nationals, and the largest AAU Sanctioned tournament in the world “The Reno Memorial Day Tournament” that has over 600 teams competing Memorial Day Weekend.
